Illegal drug and alcohol use conflicts with and is contrary to State Law, the Federal Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, and the Federal Department of Transportation Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. The possession, use, distribution or manufacture of alcohol or illegal drugs in the workplace is prohibited.
Any involvement with alcohol or drugs that interferes with an employee's ability to perform his/her assigned duties, regardless of where such alcohol or drugs are consumed, is a concern that must be addressed by the affected employee's supervisor as well as the individual. Violation of alcohol or drug-free rules or laws may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
It is the policy of the Alhambra Unified School District Board that the workplace be maintained free of alcohol and illegal drugs. Employees with problems related to substance abuse are encouraged to seek immediate assistance through private services. All employee assistance referrals shall remain strictly confidential.
An alcohol and drug testing program is hereby implemented throughout the Alhambra Unified School District, covering district employees who drive commercial motor vehicles requiring a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and any other employees who possess a Commercial Driver's License. All alcohol and drug testing shall be conducted in strict accordance with 49 CFR Part 391-H and Part 40 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
The Superintendent or designee shall implement this program beginning January 1, 1996.
