Each school is responsible for creating an environment which fosters positive attitudes and practices among students and staff; an environment which further allows persons to realize their full individual potential through understanding and appreciation of society's diversity of race, ethnic background, national origin, religious belief, sex, age, disability, or sexual orientation. The schools shall not tolerate any comments or gestures which are vulgar or obscene or which denigrate others.
The schools shall promote nonviolent conflict resolution techniques and provide students opportunities to voice their concerns about school policies and practices regarding bias related incidents/hate crimes.
The curriculum and counseling programs at each school shall foster positive gender, racial and ethnic identity, help students understand diverse cultures, assist them in finding commonalties between cultures, teach them to think critically about bias, and show them how to deal with discriminatory behavior in appropriate ways.
