The Board affirms that instructional time, standards-based curriculum, appropriately credentialed arts education staff, appropriately designed and equipped classrooms, new media and electronic technology, and curriculum materials and supplies are needed to support a quality arts program. The Standards-based arts education program should enable students to achieve the goals outlined in the Visual and Performing Arts Content Standards for California Public Schools. The Board encourages all teachers to use the arts to facilitate learning in other subject areas of core curriculum.
Also fundamental to the success of arts education is a continuing program of standards- based in-service for staff to improve their ability to deliver quality arts instruction across all curricular areas and to maximize the opportunities for student achievement.
The Board supports collaboration with community arts agencies and is committed to providing the necessary time, staff and financial resources in order to support school-community arts agency partnerships. Students shall have the opportunities to attend musical, theatrical and dance performances, attend art exhibitions and work directly with visiting artists.
The superintendent or designee shall develop a plan, establish procedures to implement board policies and provide for the ongoing review, evaluation and development of the District's arts education program.
