1. Academic
In order to participate in school co-curricular activities in grades 7-12, the student must have a grade point average of AC@ (2.00) for the last official grading period. If a student is ineligible at the last official grading period, the student is then on probation until the next official grading period. While on probation a student may participate in co-curricular activities. If a student does not have a AC@ (2.00) average at the next official grading period following probation, the student is ineligible to participate in co-curricular activities until the student achieves a AC@ average (2.00) at any official grading period.
2. Citizenship
In order to participate in school co-curricular activities in grades 7-12, the student must have no more than one "unsatisfactory" citizenship mark (U). Failure to meet the citizenship requirement of no more than one "unsatisfactory" citizenship mark (U) will cause the student to be placed on probation until the next grading period, during which time the student will be permitted to continue participation.
Probation will be removed if the student has met and maintained satisfactory citizenship standards during the probationary period. If citizenship is still unsatisfactory at the end of the probationary period, the student will be disqualified immediately from further participation
3. Controlled Substance
Immediate suspension from participation is instituted if a student is found to have used, possess, sold or otherwise furnished or been under the influence of any controlled substance. The suspension shall be based on observation by a certificated staff member that the student's behavior is that of someone under the influence of an intoxicant or that the student is in possession or has sold an intoxicant. Observation is to be verified by more than one staff member.
Documentation shall consist of one or more of the following:
a. Police report verifying suspected material in possession of the student or the material sold or otherwise furnished by the student as being a controlled substance, as defined in section 11007 of the Health and Safety Code.
b. Diagnosis by a qualified health professional that the student is under the influence of alcohol, narcotics or other controlled substance.
Students taking prescription drugs under the care of a physician are exempt from this procedure once verification has been established.
4. Appeals
The student may request the principal to review the disqualification, provided that request is made within five school days from receipt of the report card, the official suspension or the completion of the probationary period.
