The Board encourages district employees to accept as guiding principles the codes of ethics published by professional associations to which they may belong.
(cf. 9271 - Code of Ethics)
The district recognizes the varying nature of a teacher's day-to-day responsibilities does not lend itself to a specific enumeration of duties. As in other professions, teachers require a flexible period of time for fulfillment of professional obligation. Working constructively with other certificated and classified staff assigned to the school, students, and parents is a professional duty of teachers.
The principals, under the direction of the Superintendent, shall supervise teachers in the performance of their duties and shall provide teachers reasonable explanations of the responsibilities and duties required of them by law and regulations.
Comprehensive Responsibility
Teachers shall be responsible for the care, discipline, and instruction of students in their charge; enforce the course of study and the use of legally authorized textbooks; hold students to a strict account for their conduct on the way to and from school, on the playgrounds, or during the recess; enforce all rules governing the conduct of students and such rules as may be prescribed by principals or the Superintendent; maintain hygenic conditions and practices in their classrooms as they may affect the physical or mental health of the students, and report promptly to the principal any accident or illness affecting students in their charge; and refer to the principal or designee all requests for students to leave school in the company of any person not a school officer.
