Remuneration, Reimbursement, And Other Benefits
Each member of the Board of Trustees may receive the maximum monthly compensation as provided for in law.
Board members are not required to accept payment for meetings attended.
Board members are expected to attend all Regular and Special Board meetings agendized and timely posted to be eligible for monthly compensation. If a member does not attend all Board meetings during the month, he/she is eligible to receive only a percentage of the monthly compensation equal to the percentage of meetings attended unless otherwise authorized by the Board in accordance with law. (Education Code 1090, 35120) A Board meeting shall be considered held for purposes of a Board member to be eligible for monthly compensation, if the Board meeting agenda was timely posted; 72 hours prior to a Regular Board meeting, 24 hours prior to a Special Board meeting.
Members may be paid for meetings they missed when the Board, by resolution, finds that they were performing designated services for the district at the time of the meeting or that they were absent because of illness, jury duty, or a hardship deemed acceptable by the Board. (Education Code 1090, 35120)
In order to receive compensation for any Board meeting, Board members shall be present for the complete meeting.
Reimbursement of Expenses
Board members shall be reimbursed for traveling expenses incurred when so authorized in advance by the Board. (Education Code 35044)
The rate of reimbursement shall be the same rate specified for district personnel.

Health and Welfare Benefits
Board Members may participate in the health and welfare benefits program provided for district employees. The benefits of Board Members shall not be greater than the most generous schedule of benefits being received by any category of non-safety employees.
Benefits for Retired Board Members
The district shall pay health insurance premiums for retired Board members who served in office after January 1, 1981, and who have served a total of 12 years or more. These payments shall be made to the same extent that they were being made before January 1, 1994, and under the same terms. The Board may grant the same or a lesser benefit upon retirement to current Board members provided that they served 12 years or more on the Board, and provided that their first term began before January 1, 1995. This benefit shall not be granted to Board members whose first term of office began on or after January 1, 1995.
