The Board of Trustees recognizes that it is vital to the successful operation of the district that positions be filled with highly qualified and competent people.

Site Level Interview Employment Process

The site level interview process for certificated personnel shall be conducted based on the following criteria and all panel members shall sign a confidentiality form:

1. Screening - Each site shall screen the best qualified candidates for the position based on the job description and materials submitted. A screening committee appointed by the site principal will select those candidates to be interviewed. The screening committee shall consist of at least three members including the principal or designee and two certificated staff members.

2. Interview - The interview shall have three primary components:

a. Each candidate shall complete an oral interview with the interview panel. The interview panel shall be appointed by the principal or designee and shall be comprised of, but not limited to, the principal, a certificated staff member, a classified staff member, a parent, and when appropriate, a student. Inasmuch as possible when hiring content area specialists, a representative from that department will be part of the committee. All parties will sign a confidentiality form and use district approved forms for screening and interviewing candidates. Legally sound interview questions will be created by the principal or designee and reviewed in advance by the interview panel. All candidates shall be asked the same questions during the interview and a record of the questions asked of all candidates shall be kept on file in the district office. These records shall be maintained for four years. Candidate Rating Sheets shall be completed by each interview panel member for each candidate and shall be kept on file in the district office. The timeframe for each interview shall be 30-40 minutes.

b. Each candidate shall demonstrate teaching skills by teaching a lesson to the interview panel. The principal or designee shall select the subject matter of the lesson. The timeframe for the candidate to teach the lesson shall be up to 15 minutes. To allow for adequate time to prepare the lesson, the candidate shall be provided with the subject of the lesson and timeframe for the lesson at the same time the invitation for the interview is extended. All candidates will be provided with the same information and shall be required to teach the same lesson. Criteria for scoring the effectiveness of the lesson shall be provided to the panel by the District. Completed scoring sheets for each candidate shall be kept on file in the district office.

c. The candidate shall complete a writing prompt that will be administered either directly before or after the interview. The writing prompt will be created by the principal or designee and reviewed by the interview panel. The timeframe for the candidate to complete the writing shall be up to 30 minutes for which the candidate will be provided with a quiet location and computer station to complete the prompt. All candidates shall complete the same writing prompt. Criteria for scoring the writing shall be provided to the panel by the District. Completed scoring sheets for each candidate shall be kept on file in the district office.

The interview panel shall evaluate each candidate's response to interview questions, effectiveness of lesson delivery, and writing sample.

The Superintendent shall hire the best qualified candidate, if any, and forward the candidate to the Board for ratification.
