Interdistrict Attendance

arrow Previous bar Next arrow

The Governing Board recognizes that parents/guardians of students who reside within the geographic boundaries of one district may, for a variety of reasons, desire to enroll their children in a school in another district.

(cf. 5111.1 - District Residency)

(cf. 5116.1 - Intradistrict Open Enrollment)

(cf. 5118 - Open Enrollment Act Transfers)

The Board may approve Interdistrict Attendance Agreements with other districts on a case-by-case basis to meet individual student needs. The Interdistrict Attendance Agreement shall not exceed a term of five years and shall stipulate the terms and conditions under which Interdistrict attendance shall be permitted or denied. (Education Code 46600)

The Superintendent or designee shall ensure that Interdistrict Attendance Agreements specify the terms and conditions agreed to by both districts for the granting, denial, or revocation of the permit as well as the standards for reapplication.

In the absence of an Interdistrict Attendance Agreement, individual requests to enter or leave the district will be governed by the procedures established in Education Code 46600. In these cases, the terms and conditions for the granting, denial, or revocation of the permit, as well as the standards for reapplication, shall be established by Bonita Unified School District policy and regulations.

The Superintendent or designee may deny the granting of an Interdistrict attendance permit because of capacity within district schools, or programs, or limited district resources.

The Superintendent or designee shall establish an Interdistrict attendance selection process which ensures that transfer students are admitted to district schools through a random, unbiased process.

A child of an active military duty parent/guardian shall not be prohibited from transferring out of the district to a school district of choice, if the other school district approves the application for transfer. (Education Code 48301)
