Participation in Middle School Promotion Ceremony and Activities

Disciplinary Considerations

In order to encourage high standards of student conduct and behavior, the principal may deny a student the privilege of participating in promotion ceremonies and/or activities in accordance with the schoolwide comprehensive discipline plan. School policy shall ensure that prior to denial of the privilege(s), the student, and where practicable his/her parent/guardian, is made aware of the grounds for such denial and that the student is given an opportunity to respond to the proposed denial. If privilege(s) are to be denied, the student and parent/guardian shall receive written notice of the denied privilege and the means whereby he/she may appeal this decision.

Academic Considerations

In order to encourage high standards of student achievement, the principal may deny a student the privilege of participating in promotion activities leading up to the ceremony in accordance with minimum cumulative GPA requirement of 2.0.

Students may not be denied the privilege of participating in the promotion ceremony based on GPA requirements alone.

* Second semester, students not achieving at a 2.0 GPA will be put on a behavior contract.

* Final notification will occur, in writing and via phone, no later than the last school day in May

* Notification is on the back of every progress report about the criteria for promotion.
