Certificated Administrators

The work year for administrators shall be established by the Superintendent with approval of the Governing Board. A full time 12-month administrator shall be required to render 220 days of service per year.

Administrators who are 12-month employees will be entitled to 25 annual vacation days with pay exclusive of holidays as defined in Education Code 37220 and 37221. Vacation days shall be earned incrementally on a month to month basis at the rate of 2.08 days per month. However, once 40 days of vacation have been accrued, no additional days of vacation shall be earned until the number of unused accrued vacation days is less than 40.

At the option of the district, the administrator may be paid for any unused vacation days at the end of each school year in a single lump sum payment.*

The administrator shall be entitled to 25 days of annual vacation with pay, exclusive of holidays as defined in the Education Code. The administrator's daily rate of pay shall be calculated by dividing the administrator's annual salary by the sum of the total number of work days. Vacation time may be accumulated from year to year and no more than 30 vacation days may be carried forward from one fiscal year but, in no event will more than 40 days of unused vacation be paid at the expiration or termination of services of an administrative employee in lieu of scheduled vacation. Unused days in excess of 30, shall be compensated at the end of each year.*

Upon termination of services as an administrative employee, the administrator shall be entitled to compensation for unused and accumulated vacation up to a maximum of 40 days at his/her then current daily rate of pay. Once the administrator has accumulated 40 unused vacation days, he/she shall no longer earn vacation until such time as the number of accumulated unused vacation is less than 40 days without the consent of the Board.

Administrative employees who begin employment with another STRS member employer while on terminal vacation will forfeit entitlement to the remainder of the terminal vacation.

Classified Management Employees

Classified management employees who are 12-month employees shall be entitled to 25 annual vacation days with pay, at the rate of 2.08 days per month, exclusive of holidays as defined in the Education Code. However, once 40 days of vacation have been accrued, no additional days of vacation shall be earned until the number of unused accrued vacation days is less than 40 days without the consent of the Board.

Vacation time may be accumulated from year to year but, in no event will more than 40 days of unused vacation be paid at the expiration or termination of services of a classified management employee in lieu of scheduled vacation, and no more than 30 vacation days may be carried forward from one fiscal year. Unused days in excess of 30 shall be compensated at the end of each year.*

Upon termination of services of a classified management employee, the individual shall be entitled to compensation for unused and accumulated vacation up to a maximum of 40 days at his/her current daily rate of pay. A classified management employee, who begin employment with another PERS member employer while on terminal vacation will forfeit entitlement to the remainder of that terminal vacation.

A classified management employee who is employed in less than a 12 month assignment accrues vacation at a rate proportionate to what his/her assignment bears to a 12 month assignment and he/she is not allowed to carry forward any vacation days into the next fiscal year.

A full-time classified employee works 12 months a year, eight hours a day.

*The provision applies retroactively back to the 2002-03 school year in accordance to the limit established in BP 4362 adopted June 30, 1993.
