The principal of each high school shall hold fire drills at least twice each school year. A record shall be kept in the principal's office of each fire drill conducted. A copy of the record shall also be filed in the office of the Superintendent or designee.

Designated escape routes shall be posted in each room. Teachers shall be prepared to select alternate exits and direct their classes to these exits in the event the designated escape route is blocked.

Fire drills will be effective if the teachers and students are convinced that the drills are necessary precautionary measures. Enthusiastic and businesslike participation by all personnel of the school is essential in making the drills meaningful to all and as efficient as they should be.

The main purpose of fire drills is to give training and practice in orderly evacuation of the building.
