arrow Previous bar Next arrow

The Board of Education recognizes the importance of hiring qualified temporary athletic team coaches for the district's sports program.

The Superintendent or designee shall establish qualification criteria for all athletic coaches in accordance with law and with district standards and priorities. These criteria shall ensure that all temporary coaches possess an appropriate level of competence, knowledge, and skill.

As prescribed in California Education Code 44919 (b), temporary athletic team coaching positions shall first be made available to credentialed teachers who are presently employed by the District. For the purpose of this policy, the term "made available" shall mean that all credentialed teachers presently employed by the District who meet both the minimum qualifications and the requirements established by the District in AR 4227 (a-h) and who apply for a temporary athletic team coaching position during the internal posting period shall be included in the selection process.

In addition, all coaches shall be subject to Board policy, administrative regulation and the codes of ethical conduct published by the State of California, the California Interscholastic Federation, and the District.
