Drug Abuse

It shall be the policy of the board of the district to afford the maximum protection possible against exposure to abuse of drugs and narcotics to all students. This shall be done through:

1. A program of education, at all levels, in accordance with the maturity of the students.

2. Communication with parents/guardians to inform them of (a) any instance of known drug abuse by any individual student of which the school is aware; (b) any behavior or physical characteristics that are known to be associated with drug abuse.

3. Administrative action to protect other students from any student known to have had possession or used hallucinogenic drugs or narcotics including suspension or recommendation to the board for exclusion or expulsion of such student.

4. The immediate suspension, in accordance with Education Code 48900, of students who have sold or otherwise made available to other students any controlled substance as defined in Section 11007 of the Health and Safety Code. The school principal will recommend what further action should be taken for the protection of the student population and the rehabilitation of the offender.
