PHYSICAL EDUCATION GRADES K-6
Course of Study
Gateway Unified School District will use curriculum components, instructional units, and lesson plans from the K-2 and 3-6 SPARK Physical Education Programs to teach physical education in grades K-6. All lesson plans, instructional strategies and practices will be designed to support the development and mastery of California State Physical Education Standards described in the Physical Education Model Content Standards for California Public Schools K- Grade 12, adopted by the California State Board of Education, Jan. 2005; and the Physical Education Framework for California Public Schools, Kindergarten Through Grade Twelve, adopted and published by California Department of Education in 2009.
Physical Education instruction, with emphasis upon the physical activities for the pupils that may be conducive to health and vigor of body and mind, will consist of no less than 200 minutes each 10 schooldays in grades first through sixth, exclusive of recesses and the lunch period. Physical Education 10-day lesson plans will be submitted in advance to the school site administrator for all first through sixth grade physical education classes.
