World/Foreign Language Instruction

In order to prepare students for global citizenship and to broaden their intercultural understanding and career opportunities, the Governing Board may provide students with opportunities to develop linguistic proficiency and cultural literacy in one or more world languages in addition to English.

The Superintendent or designee may recommend world languages to be taught in the district's educational program based on student interest, community needs, and available resources. He/she shall also consider providing English learners the opportunity to study their heritage language, when such a course is available, in order to continue developing skills in that language. American Sign Language courses shall be open to all students regardless of hearing status.
