Cautionary Notice: As added and amended by SBX3 4 (Ch. 12, Third Extraordinary Session, Statutes of 2009) and ABX4 2 (Ch. 2, Fourth Extraordinary Session, Statutes of 2009), Education Code 42605 grants districts flexibility in "Tier 3" categorical programs. The Metropolitan Education District has accepted this flexibility and thus is deemed in compliance with the statutory or regulatory program and funding requirements for these programs for the 2008-2009 through the 2012-13 fiscal years. As a result, the district may temporarily suspend certain provisions of certain policies or regulations that reflect these requirements. The Governing Board recognizes that education is a lifelong process and that it is important for individuals to continuously develop new skills.
The Superintendent or designee shall develop and oversee the Metropolitan Adult Education Program (MAEP). The Board shall approve all courses to be offered in this program.
When resources are available, the adult education program will include courses related to:
1. Citizenship and English as a Second Language
2. Short-Term Career technical Skills
3. Elementary and Secondary Basic Skills leading to a High School Diploma or General Education Development Certificate.
4. Parenting, Family, and Consumer Awareness
5. Older Adults and Adults with Disabilities
The adult education program will also be designed to serve persons under 18 years of age who have dropped out of school or who desire to take additional courses to supplement and enrich their high school program.
