The Director of Maintenance, Operations, and Transportation, will be responsible for the coordination of the transportation of all the district's students. It shall be the coordinator's responsibility to see that all state laws and Board policies regarding the transporting of students are enforced.
Transporting Students in District Vehicles
Whenever possible and practical, school district vehicles will be used to transport students. School busses can be used for any school-sponsored activities, but are only to be used for such activities. School busses can be used for rooters busses, but the cost must be paid by the student body.
Transporting Students in Private Vehicles
It is the policy of the Governing Board that the use of privately owned vehicles to transport students to and from study trips will be approved by the principal, or principal's designee, of the school in which the students are enrolled.
Use of School Student Activity Bus (SPAB)/Common Carrier
It is the policy of the Board that the Director of MOT will maintain a list of common carriers (SPABs) that are authorized to transport Newark students. It will also be his responsibility to see that all approved carriers have adequate liability insurance. It is also the policy of the Board that the arrangements for the use of common carrier will be made only by the MOT Department.
Overnight Field Trips
Prior Board approval is required for overnight trips, and for all trips farther than 125 miles.
