Open/Closed Campus

Regular, punctual, and full-day attendance is an important prerequisite for a student to make reasonable progress toward maximum intellectual development, consistent with the Statement of Educational Principles.

State law places the primary responsibility for student attendance with the parent or guardian. This district recognizes the importance of regular attendance and requires the reason for each student absence to be verified by the school authorities in any reasonable manner that establishes the actual reason for the absence. The Superintendent shall provide for a system of record keeping to maintain attendance data for each student. In situations where individual attendance and punctuality standards become unsatisfactory to school authorities, parents/guardians will be notified, and appropriate action taken.

A pupil will not be released from school before the regular closing hours expect with the approval of the principal of the school or his/her designated representative. It is the position of this district that we will have and enforce "closed" campuses at all levels.

Students may not leave the school grounds during their lunch periods unless schools have on file an approved off-campus permit. Neither the school district nor its staff shall be liable for the conduct or safety of any students who are off campus during lunch.
