Use of Network & Technology Resources

RUSD TECHNOLOGY VISION STATEMENT

The Rescue Union School District (RUSD) envisions students and personnel utilizing technology effectively to succeed in a complex and information-rich world. RUSD provides a student-focused educational setting in which technology is a vehicle for integrating standards-based curriculum, problem solving, communication and collaboration. Our students will leave the District prepared to confront the challenges of their ever-changing world.

Prior to utilizing the RUSD's network or technological resources, all parent/guardians and students must read and discuss the Responsible Use Policy (RUP) along with the RUSD Board Policy 6163.4 and Administrative Regulation 6163.4 for Student Technology Use (found at the end of this document).

We encourage parent/guardians to take this opportunity to discuss Internet safety with your child and provide them with expectations that will guide them in using the District Network and the Internet responsible and safely. Internet safety resources may be found on the district website at http://www.rescueusd.org/ParentResources.

Grades K - 2 Student Agreement

When using the district and school's network which includes all computers, electronic devices, technology resources and the resources and the Internet¬Ö I, THE STUDENT, PROMISE TO FOLLOW THESE RULES:

1. I promise to use all computer equipment carefully and safely.

2. I promise to only use the programs and websites that my teacher tells me to use.

3. I promise not to share my password.

4. I promise to ask for help if I don't know what to do.

5. I promise to tell my teacher or a trusted adult if I read or see something on the computer that is upsetting or not appropriate.

6. I promise to print only when my teacher tells me to print.

7. I promise to always be respectful and kind to others when using the computer.

8. I understand that if I break any of my promises, I may not be able to use the computer or the Internet.

Parent/Guardian Agreement

In consideration of the RUSD permitting my child to access the School District's Network and through it the Internet¬Ö I, THE PARENT/GUARDIAN, AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING:

1. Along with my child, I have read and discussed Board Policy and Administrative Regulation 6163.4, Student Use of Technology, located at the end of this document or as posted on the Internet at http://www.rescueusd.org/Technology.

2. It is the intent of the district to keep students safe when using the District Network and its technology resources. To protect your child:

3. Internet access throughout the district is filtered and inappropriate content is blocked to the extent possible. District filtering is stringent and includes, but is not limited to, filtering child pornography, obscene and illegal material, alcohol, tobacco, cheating, weapons, cults, hate discrimination, and other material that has no educational value.

4. Staff will supervise, monitor and direct student Internet usage.

5. Staff will teach students how to use the resources appropriately.

6. Students are to let the teacher or an adult know if they see anything inappropriate on the Internet.

7. Secure, filtered email may be provided to students for collaboration with their teacher, students, and approved adults, such as Intel PC Pals, when given access by their school/teacher.

8. I understand that regardless of the precautions taken by the district, there is a chance that my student may be exposed to material or communication that I may find offensive, but agree that this is an acceptable risk given the positive educational benefits expected of the District Network and Internet access program.

9. I agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless the RUSD and its officers, employees and representatives, from and against any and all claims for damage or injury caused by or related to my child's willful and/or intentional violations of the provisions of this agreement.

10. I hereby agree to release the RUSD and its officers, employees and representatives from any claims regarding injury to my child, including claims for negligence, however caused, arising from or in connection with my child's use of the district's Network, electronic mail, and the Internet.

11. I understand that acceptance of this agreement will remain in effect for this school year. I may rescind this permission at any time in writing.

Parent/Guardian Acceptance

___ My child MAY use the District Network, technology resources, and access electronic mail and the Internet for the 2014-2015 school year according to the rules outlined and referenced above. Should I wish to rescind permission, I will notify the school in writing.

___ I would prefer that my child NOT use the Internet and electronic mail while at school.

6. I will obey copyright and privacy laws as instructed by my teacher.

7. I will tell my teacher if I read or see something on the computer that is upsetting or inappropriate.

8. I will not view, send or display inappropriate messages or pictures.

9. I will print only when my teacher tells me to print.

10. I will always be respectful and kind to others when I use the computer.

11. I will not access, create, store or send material that may be harmful to others.

12. I understand that if I break any of my promises, I may not be able to use the computer or the Internet.

1. I will use all technology resources and the network for school work ONLY and as directed by my teacher.

2. I agree to act responsibly and will use all resources in a safe manner.

3. I understand that use of the District Network and all technology resources is a privilege, not a right.

4. I understand that there is no expectation of privacy. district staff may monitor how I use the Internet, network and technology resources at any time.

5. I will not share my personal information, login, or password with others nor will I use other logins or passwords.

6. I will let my teacher or an adult know if I see anything on the Internet that is upsetting or inappropriate.

7. I will follow privacy, copyright and plagiarism laws and will only produce work that is my own.

8. I will treat others with courtesy and respect when using technology resources and will not engage in cyberbullying.

9. I will not download ANY software, viruses, or malware on district or school computers.

10. I will use the network and resources in a legal manner and understand that law enforcement will be notified if criminal activity is discovered.

11. I understand that if I violate any of the rules regarding use of these resources, disciplinary action may result.

12. I understand that disciplinary action will be based on the severity of the behavior and may include loss of use, suspension, or expulsion in accordance with the RUSD policies and the laws of California.
