Open/Closed Campus

As authorized by Education Code 44808.5, the Board of Trustees establishes an "open campus" at district high schools. By allowing our students to leave campus during the break and lunch period, the Board entrusts them with an opportunity to learn responsibility and demonstrate good citizenship. Students shall not leave the school grounds at any other time during the school day without permission of school authorities. Students who leave school without such authorization shall be classified as truant and subject to disciplinary action.

Due to the unique schedule and lack of school-based food services at San Andreas, students attending San Andreas may leave campus during the 15 minute morning nutrition break. However, during this period, San Andreas students may not be on, or loitering near, any other school campus. Students who violate this rule will be appropriately disciplined.

The district, Board and district employees shall not be liable for the conduct and safety of students who leave grounds during the lunch period. (Education Code 44808.5)

As required by law, the Board shall notify parents/guardians at the beginning of the school term of their decision to establish an open campus.

The principal is authorized to close the campus under the conditions of emergency, to ensure student health and safety, or to maintain a safe and orderly school environment.
