Selection And Evaluation Of Instructional Materials
RESOLUTION ON SUFFICIENCY OF TEXTBOOKS OR INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
RESOLUTION Vista Unified School District Resolution #______ Determining Sufficiency of Textbooks or Instructional Materials.
On motion of Member __________________, seconded by Member __________________, the following resolution is adopted:
BE IT RESOLVED: by the governing Board of Vista Unified School District hereby order that:
WHEREAS, in order to receive state instructional materials funds, the Governing Board is required by Education Code Section 60119 to hold a public hearing and adopt a resolution by the eighth week of the school year, determining that every pupil, including English learners, has sufficient textbooks or instructional materials in each of the following subjects that are consistent with the content and cycles of the curriculum framework adopted by the State Board of Education: mathematics, science, history-social science, reading/language arts.
WHEREAS, as part of the required hearing, the Governing Board must also make a written determination as to whether each pupil enrolled in a foreign language or health course has sufficient textbooks or instructional materials that are consistent with the content and cycles of the curriculum frameworks adopted by the state board for those subjects.
WHEREAS, the Governing Board shall also determine the availability of laboratory science equipment as applicable to science laboratory courses offered in grades 9 to 12 inclusive
WHEREAS, "sufficient textbooks or instructional materials" means that each pupil, including English learners, has a textbook or instructional materials, or both, to use in class and to take home to complete required homework assignments. This does not require two sets of textbooks or instructional materials for each pupil.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, DETERMINED, AND ORDERED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VISTA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT AS FOLLOWS:
As required by Education Code Section 60119, the school district has sufficient textbooks for instructional materials for each pupil in the following areas:
3. History-Social Science
4. Reading/language arts, including the English language development component of an adopted program
6. Foreign Language
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that there is available science laboratory equipment for students in science laboratory courses offered in grades 9 to 12.
